Sounds like a weather report. Kind of is a weather report. It is cold and snowy/rainy night tonight, the perfect night to curl up with a good book. I really need to make out my Christmas cards but I will do that tomorrow. Turned the tv off and just looking out at the neighbours' Christmas lights. For some people quietness like this is scary, always having to be entertained. Not moi. Time to read for awhile.

Shoes
@ 2008-11-28 – 19:43:47
Alright, ladies and gents. What type of shoes person are you? I was reading the paper this morning and it had an advert for really pretty looking boots for winter. Stylish, Australian Ugg boots. Not cheap, don't think I can afford them, but I sure would like a pair. Most women I know go for high heels. I think the older you get as a woman the lower the heel gets. I like, really like comfy shoes to go along with my comfy chair. They would be really nice and warm in the winter. *sigh*

Quiet life
@ 2008-11-28 – 03:07:40
Sat in my comfy chair reading the paper today. I lead the life of a pensioner. I have a comfy chair with my knitting watching tv. Newspaper and cats by my side. Never been a partier and never will be. Never had those wild days of youth. Too lazy tis me. I would say, "If I party I will get drunk and if I get drunk I will get a headache and I have headaches all the time, so I will just stay home". Now I do like to go out for a nice meal and go to the cinema; museum gallery, concert and uh oh there I am a pensioner again. I like the quiet life. It suits me fine. I guess I am pretty boring but I am happy that way.

Happy Thanksgiving! Beets ugh!
@ 2008-11-27 – 18:15:05
Well, it is hard to be happy with all the terrible things happening in India yesterday and today. Hoping all the hostages are returned safely to their families.
I am having a vegetarian Thanksgiving. I am not quite a vegetarian but I do often make vegetarian meals. I am having Tofuturkey, dilled green beans and mash potatoes with gravy and my dessert is chocolate fudge nut brownies, yeah! A traditional American Thanksgiving meal consists of stuffed Turkey, some type of potatoes, vegetable, a type of bread, Cole slaw, Waldorf salad and the ubiquitous platter of beets.
BEETS! ugh! no use for them. A ridiculous vegetable I say. First of all, why would you eat something that resembles blood in colour? That smells funny and and tastes sweet and tart at the same time.
I s'pose I better wander into the kitchen and make my feast.

I missed the Whole thing- update
@ 2008-11-26 – 23:38:13
Learned more about the tossed ciggie fire that burnt down McD's down the street. Seems there was some renovating and a construction worker, tossed his ciggie. I guess in to chip fryer. They are going to have to rebuild the whole thing.
I never eat at McD's. If I want a proper American hamburger I go to Winsteads. A local place that serves lean burgers and..wait for it..real chips!! You can find chips listed on many menus here. That's 'cause a lot of you British Expats live here and you have to have your chips, not french fries. So they list french fries and chips on the menus.
Personally, I like the big chips. The big chips are called "steak fries" in the US. There are so many types:Steak fries, french fries, waffle fries, curly fries and I have probably left out a few. A good place to get Fish and chips near me is the Long John Silver. They turned their cuisine into British from American fast food and now get quite a crowd especially on the weekend. Now I know it is not as good as the real thing but..at least it's fish and chips.

Blood!!
@ 2008-11-26 – 02:14:30
Just a little funny for the evening. A little background and watch the whole thing. This toddler accidentally hits the baby in the mouth causing him to bleed but he has a delayed upset reaction to it.

I missed the Whole thing.
@ 2008-11-25 – 03:34:45
Taking Aunt Maggie to the cinema tonight and well we got the time wrong so we went for pizza instead oh well. So we missed the whole thing. We were driving past the McDonalds just a few blocks away and I asked what happened and why it was boarded up. Apparently there was a huge fire one evening. Destroyed the whole building. Someone threw a cigarette tip on floor and it caught fire and burnt the place down. Got to watch where you toss your ciggies. I missed the whole fire thing since I work in the evening. I miss a lot of stuff working in the evenings. But it pays better so I work evenings.
Nighty night.

What I wish for Christmas
@ 2008-11-23 – 01:29:11
I wish for my blog UK friends to have a Merry Christmas.
I wish to find out who the next Doctor Who is by Christmas.
I wish for better things to come for all. This afternoon I got home from work and was just going to take a nap before chatting with my friends. Well, I got sidetracked. I went down to the storage locker and decided to bring up the Christmas tree and put it up. I not only put up the tree, with help from my cats Captain Jack Harkness and Gabbie, but also strung lights outside on my balcony. My mum passed away last year after a long bout with cancer and I wasn't in the mood for Christmas. Not really in the mood this year either but I said I am doing it anyway by George and so I did.
So Merry Christmas, it's almost here.
cheers,

Sarah Palin, the gift that just keeps on giving...
@ 2008-11-21 – 19:21:03
Oh dear. Apparently, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska went to perform a light hearted duty and disaster ensues. I am not posting the video as it is too ghastly but so ironic on just so very many levels. Instead here is the CNN blog on the incident.

A Reminder for us all
@ 2008-11-21 – 05:10:01
Today I went to work and was greeted at the door by Amy. I was surprised and thrilled to see her. Amy was in a near fatal car accident a year ago, severely brain damaged, paralyzed and in a coma for quite awhile. Her journey back to work even if for now very part time is nothing short of a miracle. She looked a little different but we all change and in a wheel chair but when my eyes met hers I saw that spark of life. She was so happy to be alive and so grateful to be able to come to work for four hours twice a week for now. Amy is around 22 years old and yet and still has her whole life ahead of her. She recognized me and spun her wheelchair around and said I have something for you. She handed me a bracelet she must have made for occupational therapy. It has her name on it, a cross, a star and the words, "carpe diem" I promptly put the bracelet on and thanked her for it. I threw my arms around her and thanked her and told her I was so happy to see her back. She told me she thought the day would never come. She is so brave.
I am promising myself to either wear or keep Amy's bracelet near me to remind myself of several things:One, miracles do occur, two, it is so easy to feel sorry for oneself but one only has to see and think of Amy to realise that with hard work and luck some dreams can come true. I feel so often I have lived my life waiting for the future and yet the future is the present. I am thankful to have seen Amy today. She is an inspiration.
And while life is life and tomorrow I may wake up crabby, I will try to remember Amy and her life and not let crabbiness or sadness colour my day very much.

Nightmares
@ 2008-11-18 – 16:25:54
OOh. woke up from a doosey nightmare last night. Most of it didn't make any sense and the next thing I know I am sitting next to a guy who had boils all over him. Me being the type not wanting to offend, people can't help how they are you know, I just sat their on the bench waiting for my bus to come. I looked down and noticed he had white socks, which was grosser to me than the boils. My kitty Captain Jack Harkness work me up and usually I go back to sleep but I thought, nah I think I will get up.
Must have been the corned beef sandwich I had last night.cheers,

Clean up TV
@ 2008-11-17 – 02:30:09
Hi. Been watching Public Tv tonight. There is an interesting drama on about Mary Whitehouse. I only remember her and her evil cohort Michael Grade as the villains who did away with Doctor Who in the late 1980's. So she was cleaning up tv eh. Up until then British tv was all smut including BBC2? Did it work? Is Britain free of smut tv?

The Suspense is getting to me
@ 2008-11-16 – 03:26:19
Ok. I feel very Christmasy and all excited after seeing the Children in Need preview of the The Next Doctor Christmas Special. I know everyone is convinced the David Morrissey Doctor is a con and the story is based upon the Big Finish audio episode, The One Doctor. With that being said, two things have convinced me that David Morrissey is the Eleventh Doctor. First one being that Russell T. Davies always, always has literal titles. From The Long Game is episode one to Journey's End. It does what it says on the tin. Secondly, The David Morrissey Doctor has a watch fob. The David Morrissey Doctor is a chameleon arched Timelord who for some reason is pretending to be the Tenth Doctor and he's got it a bit wrong. Real screwdriver in stead of the sonic screwdriver. The Cybermen look different. Rosita is carrying an wearing an actual toolbelt. Even if he is playing a con for some reason, I still think he will be the Eleventh Doctor. After all didn't Romana II take on the appearance of Princess Astra when they brought back Lalla Ward to be the Doctor's companion? We may not know until the end of the Doctor Who specials when Ten regenerates who the next Doctor is, but it is a lot of fun speculating. Notice the watch fob...

They say only the good die young.
@ 2008-11-15 – 03:55:39
I was at a funeral this evening. One of my co-worker's husband didn't wake up Monday morning he passed away of natural causes. He leaves 3 children and his wife. The youngest child is 15 the oldest at University. It was a dignified and nice service. The reception afterwards in the church basement hall was really sweet. They had all his favourite treats:Oreo cookies, Twizzlers, coca-cola. He and my co-worker had been married since the 1970's. In this age when divorce is easy they were a shining example of sticking together through thick and thin. So tonight is just a quiet early to bed night and thinking of the nice things in life, the little things that do make life pleasant, because you never know.
Sweet dreams all,

The Poison Sky
@ 2008-11-14 – 05:18:29
Hullo. I was driving to work this morning. Thinking it was a nice, cool fall day. Almost at work and I am at the stoplight of the last intersection before work. I watch this truck/lorry drive through the intersection and nearly lost my cookies. In big bold letters across the side of the lorry was ATMOS energy. Now as every good Doctor Who fan knows, ATMOS was used by the Sontarans to poison the skies over planet earth in The Poison Sky and The Sontaran Strategem. OMG. The Sontarans have invaded Kansas. I googled Atmos and this is what I found: http://www.atmosenergy.com/about/tariffs.html?st=KS. Now if only Ten was here to help us. And once it again it proves, I am a pathetic Whovian because I live for this stuff.

Favourite Movies
@ 2008-11-13 – 05:26:18
Someone asked me about my favourite movies and I had to think a bit because I like different movies from different time periods. Here are some of my favourite movies in no particular order.
1. Dam Busters - 1950's, How the English plotted and executed the bombing of German dams in World War II. I know I am a girl but it is a great movie.
2. Blade Runner - The Harrison Ford flick with Replicants and just amazing style and atmosphere from 1982.
3. Strange Brew - Little known early 1980's movie with the Canadian "Mackensie Brothers" from SCTV.
4. The Twelve Chairs - Late 1970's, This is a very, very funny little known, Mel Brooks film.
5. A Hard Day's Night - 1964 film depicting roughly 24 hours in the lives of the early Beatles, hilarious.
6. Batman - The 1989-90 Michael Keaton version. So campy and so fun.
7. The Matrix - 1999, just love this movie.
There are more to be continued. Feel free to list your fave movies.
Good night

Feet!!!
@ 2008-11-12 – 03:55:56
Ugh. Spent the day in bed with a migraine. Stayed home from work and the only thing to do is sleep them off. I had a great topic to blog about but with migraine-brain-fog, I can't remember what it was.
I woke up from sleeping off my migraine and looked down at my feet. Egads. No wonder I wear socks most of the time. It's not fair. Feet the God's exclamation point on humans. Like, you think you are so great now I am giving you feet, there's a good larf.
Some people have Flintstone feet. So named because toes are all the same size.

Celebrity, dancer and models feet. They are actually well the picture speaks for itself. They wear pointy shoes and squish their feet and ruin their feet.
So for all of us out their with ugly feet. I think we should just wear socks and not frighten the general public with sandals or flip flops. I am keeping my socks on.

Favourite bed time snacks.
@ 2008-11-11 – 05:23:49
Yeah. I know we are not supposed to eat before going to bed but I don't pay attention to that and that's pretty obvious. One day I will be really inspired like Zappy and join fat fighters and lose weight. In the meantime when I come home from work late at night. I snack. I feed the kitties and then my self. Tonight I had a chedder cheese sandwich with dijon mustard, followed by a milk chaser. Sometimes I eat a bowl of hot oatmeal and have chocolate milk. What bed time snacks do you like? I know you eat them.

You are in a rut Dave
@ 2008-11-10 – 01:44:41
It's a line from the John Lennon book "In his Own Write". I got it as a child. It was a book of Lennon's poems. That's how I feel today. I hadn't opened the mail from yesterday and when I got the run down from my money market account, the current economy really hit me. IT'S LOST HALF IT'S VALUE. I am not rich, not even well off but I had been doing all the things you are supposed to do and it's just been all whizzed down the drain so to speak. Now I am back poor where I started. Oh well, it's going to get better, eh. Here to cheer us up is a little eye candy.

The Next Doctor?
@ 2008-11-08 – 03:57:03
I read today that supposedly, supposedly, The next actor to play The Doctor will be announced next Friday on the Children in Need special. If that is true then I suspect that David Morrissey will be the Eleventh Doctor. The candidates have ranged from Billie Piper, oh good heavens, to James Nesbit. I would have liked James Nesbit or the guy from Robin Hood, Richard Armitage to play the Doctor. While I suspect it probably is Morrissey, here is Armitage. He would make a fantastic Doctor.

Quiet Friday Night
@ 2008-11-08 – 01:47:26
Hi Everyone. I spent today accomplishing very little. Got up late. Went grocery shopping and then tried to clean up a bit. I say a bit because I didn't succeed very well. I have two cats "helping" me clean up. My Rose tree that my Doctor Who friends gave me when my mum died is inside for the winter and it's going dormant and the leaves are falling off. It makes a mess in the living room but tremendous fun for the kitties. Jack has learned to stand on his hind legs, grab the tree with his paws and shake it. He loves to watch the leaves fall. I don't mind all I will have to do is clean it up. Watching him have fun is such a joy. Anybody got hints on cleaning carpets though?
I went to a local grocery store here call Hy Vee. It is employee owned and it is about the best grocery store I have ever been in. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was looking for some Tiger Balm rub for my migraines, I rub it on my head when it hurts and it soothes it, you know they special ordered it for me. How great is that! I enjoy these nice little days. Now I am going to put my jim jams on and sit with my fat kitties and my fat self on the sofa and watch tv. It doesn't get better than this.

Hitting the Reset button.
@ 2008-11-06 – 05:28:44
Hi all. Didn't get to sleep until the wee hours of the morning. Too much excitement watching all the election happenings. Then I had to get up and drag myself to work. Had I known it was going to be this much of a party I would have taken the election day after off. Someone said to me it's like we all have hangovers only no one was drinking.
I am so happy that as of today, America has the hit the reset button. We have Do-overs in the United States. I love the idea of do-overs. President Bush will pack his cowboy boots and hat and move along back to Texas, we hope. Vice President Cheney will climb out of his hidey-hole and move along back to where he came from, Montana I think.
Now if I could just borrow that reset button and change some things for me. New job, move to New York. Ah, Fantastic. Sure would like to hit the reset button.
Have a great Thursday, enjoy.
cheers,
Cassie. -
WE DID IT!!!
@ 2008-11-05 – 05:38:31
What a whirlwind day. I awoke at 5:00 am to roll out of bed and go vote. It was chilly and I was sleepy. I stood in the queue for voting for 1 hour and it was worth every minute. I have been so keyed up all day. President-elect Obama just gave a beautiful speech. I am so excited.
WE DID IT!!!!!!cheers,

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer
@ 2008-11-03 – 00:16:08
Evening all and hello. I think the media pundits have been making a lot of excuses for Sarah Palin and her lack of just general knowledge. They seem to worry about right-wing media elite criticisms and charges of bias that they are afraid to state the obvious. This woman is not that bright. I think John Cleese put it best on MSNBC the other night. He said American's are afraid of smart people and are biased against them whereas Europeans are biased against rich people. He went on to say. "Why would you be afraid to have the leader of the free world smart?". I am with you on that Mr. Cleese. Here is a great clip of MSNBC's David Shuster, a fine journalist slicing and dicing a McCain flack. The woman doesn't even understand the American constitution and she is running for the second highest office in the land. Go figure.

The Next Doctor
@ 2008-11-02 – 15:55:57
Now the guessing has begun in earnest. Who will be the Next Doctor to replace David Tennant. Odds on favourites are David Morrissey and Patterson Joseph. The Sci Fi Channel's Sci Fi newswire believes it will be Patterson Joseph. He played Roderick in Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways.
Any other guesses as to who will be the Eleventh Doctor?

Sad Farewell to David Tennant
@ 2008-11-02 – 02:37:05
Hi all. I was reading my friend's blog, Playwright27 and as it turns out I was planning to post tonight about how I felt about David Tennant leaving Doctor Who. I guess to great minds think alike.
At first I was in denial. I kept thinking well maybe he'll change his mind after all I read a couple of weeks ago he was staying until 2010 or 2011. That's not the case. I have always been a steadfast Doctor Who fan since Tom Baker days in the 1970's. Doctor Who has always been a big part of my life. I remember when Tom Baker left I was sad but excited that Peter Davison was taking on the role as I was familiar with him as Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small. My first disappointment came when Peter Davison announced he was leaving the role and boy was I upset. The rest of the regenerations I took in stride until, fastforward Christopher Eccleston leaving the role after one series. I was pretty upset with that but David Tenannt won me over in no short time. Now David Tennant is leaving..*tissues please* Sad day for Whovians, Whoovers and DT fangirls.
I plan on cheering myself up tonight with a good laugh from Saturday Night Live on live tonight. I also went shopping and bought a pair of jeans and another nice pair of pants that were both 25 percent off. A high point of the day.
I promise to take this all in stride but I know I will cry like a baby with a box of tissues at my side at the end of the specials when Ten regenerates. I am just hoping that like with Peter Davison, there is a new actor to play the Doctor, who will be someone to look forward to in the role.
